Methodology
Gross domestic product by county, all industries, from the BEA Regional accounts (table CAGDP2, line 1), beginning in 2001 — the series does not run as far back as the income tables.
Measured where the work happens. GDP is by place of work, the value added by establishments located in the county. Personal income on this site is by place of residence. The two therefore diverge wherever people commute across a county line, which in Nevada means Carson City, Storey and Douglas in particular, and the gap is a real feature of the economy rather than an inconsistency in the data.
Current dollars. This is nominal GDP, not the chained-dollar real series (CAGDP9). Year-to-year growth here includes price changes.
BEA publishes this in thousands of dollars; we store dollars, converting by the
UNIT_MULT exponent BEA supplies with every value.
Suppression. County industry detail is withheld where publishing it would
disclose an individual operation. A withheld value is stored as null flagged
suppressed and is never imputed.
Revisions. BEA restates its regional estimates every year, and the restatement reaches back: a figure for 2019 is not the figure that was published in 2019. We do not overwrite what came before — each run stores its values under a new vintage, so a number cited last year stays retrievable after BEA revises it. This is the dataset the vintage model exists for.
Nominal dollars. Published as current dollars for the year in question, with no deflation and no inflation adjustment of ours. Comparing 1969 to 2024 directly compares two different dollars.
